Can I just tell you how difficult the past 4 months have been. In case it hasn’t been made clear in any other posts, I hate keeping things to myself. I like sharing. I like writing what’s on my mind and what I’m doing and what I’m planning and well, you get the point.
So maybe you noticed that my blogging over the past few months has been sketchy in the consistency department. It’s because I couldn’t share what was going on. What I was thinking about… actually consumed with… was our wedding.
Yeah, so what? So there’s nothing saying that I couldn’t talk about it here in my blog., right? Well, really I couldn’t.
We had told our friends and family that the wedding date was August 15th, 2010, so we had plenty of time to plan everything – well… not exactly.
In the investigating process (yes, Tina, there was a spreadsheet with many tabs including, but not limited to guest lists, task lists, budgeting and table settings!), the more we realized that it was more important to us to have a bigger party to celebrate our marriage, than for people to see us walk down the aisle.
Linda’s conversion was the only thing that had to happen before a wedding could take place.
So once the date was picked for that, any date after that was open game. So anytime after Feb 5th, 2010..
Except that we had to deal with the clergy schedules!
I’m kind of into numerology – in that I love the #4, or #’s that add up to 4… and since we decided that the ceremony would only have the clergy, us, Sophie & a pianist, we really had many dates available!
So today, yes TODAY – March 22, 2010, Linda & I were married!
Everything in the planning had happened with no issues.
Friday night at the time for the kiddish, we were called up on the bima for a special blessing in honor of our upcoming wedding. (We had sent out e-mails to the congregants that were our friends telling them of our 'auf ruf' on the 19th & 20th) The community could not have been happier for us.
Saturday morning, Sophie passed out the candy to everyone and then helped 'undress' the Torah. Linda & I were called up to do the Aliyah together (yikes were we nervous) and then were pelted by candy - - totally awesome! The senior Rabbi said a blessing over us and was thrilled to have to change the words from bride & groom to bride & bride for the first time in his 20 year career!
Our wedding day started out with some adventure. Sophie had a sore throat and a slight fever when we went to bed last night. At 5:30am, she woke me up to say that she was really hot and her throat was really sore. Her temperature was 102.9. oy. I gave her some Tylenol and some honey and we went back to sleep. When we awoke at 7am, her temperature had gone down to 100.3.
We had a few errands for the wedding to do this morning, so we added the pediatricians' walk-in clinic from 8-9am to our list. Yep, she certainly had strep! I told her Dr that I was getting married this afternoon and that Sophie was supposed to be in the wedding. After offering congratulations, she said that she would call in the antibiotics and Sophie needed to take the medicine ASAP and shouldn't kiss anyone. So, Sophie was ok to be in the wedding. Whew!
So meds and flowers were picked up. Ketubbah, kiddish cup, wine, marriage license, 2 glasses to break, tallis and a pen were all dropped off at the Temple, so we wouldn't have to carry anything when were returned for the ceremony.
It was very foggy first thing in the morning, but mild out. The fog rolled out by 10, but it was starting to drizzle out. It didn't matter. We were getting married!
We had a make-up person come to the house to do our make-up (yep - even me!) and our hairdresser came over to do Sophie's hair! (She loved it and so did we!) Linda looked gorgeous!
We arrived at the temple about 12:30pm, where the video/photographer taped our arrival.
Pictures were taken, Ketubbah was signed and then the ceremony.... it was perfect. It was a blur. I can't wait to see it on DVD!
We will look forward to the 'reception' in August, but in the meantime, we will enjoy being married and wives.
No honeymoon at this time -it's March Madness, for Pete's sake!
Oh, wait. Yes, we're taking a little mini-honeymoon from April 2-7. We're going to the women's NCAA Tournament's FINAL FOUR in San Antonio, TX!!
As wives. Oh yeah, I so love the sound of that and can't wait to introduce Linda as 'my wife'!!!
Congratulations!!!
