It's been awhile... yeah, yeah... so I'm writing now. Relax.
It's been a busy month, both at work and in life, in general. i was on vacation the week of the 12th, during which I spent the days with Sophie, with my parents, with my visiting brother and his family from California... it was extremely hot out... and they days passed quickly. The Norwalk Maritime center was visited and lots of walking on the beach occurred, as well. Driving Mom to Dr appts became part of the daily agenda for my brother and me to coordinate depending on individual activities. (Mom is doing MUCH better these days, being able to move the arm and do more things with it as the days go by - YAY MOM!)
Going back to work after being off for a week was the usual nightmare - - too many e-mails and just getting back into the work mode... but fortunately my manager was on vacation this week, so easing back in was easier without her there.
And I took today off, so a 4 day work week is something also easier to ease back into.
However, I think that plan backfired, as I spent the morning taking Mom & Dad around on their weekly errands, so it seemed as I was busier than if I'd been 'relaxing' at my desk in my cube! But you know what? I enjoyed taking them around. Really.
I'm one of those weird people, I guess, who likes their parents. They're cool. We talk about all kinds of things. I like sharing things with them. I like hearing their opinions. Don't get me wrong. They can drive me crazy like no other people can, but most of the time, I like being around them.
And running errands is VERY efficient when my parents are involved. There is a plan. Always a plan. They had made an appointment for getting their car tested for emmissions at 10am and my Dad had a hair cut (across the street from the gas station where this test would be taking place). I got over to their house about 9:15 and we did a dump run (as Dad had the car loaded with the trash when I got there).
Off (of course with the dogs in the way back of their car) we go to the 10am appts., which are completed within minutes of each other. (NOTE: Dogs were allowed to stay in the car for the test and neither one of them made a peep when the guy got in the car with them to drive it onto the testing ramp - - -some watch dogs, huh???!!)
Then stops at Trader Joe's, the Senior Center, the Library, Stew Leonards, Bagel King and home to unload. Then to the diner for lunch right at noon. Not bad, huh?! I was impressed, as always. And at all the stops, I stayed in the car with the dogs and read my new Harry Potter book. So it was a win-win for all involved.
So this afternoon, when I completed only one errand - to get a ring-guard put on Linda's ring (it was a tad bit too big, still) and then got a late lunch with her, I didn't feel too guilty for being a slug. I'd watched and been the driver for many other errands... that was enough!
I've been informed it's going to be at least 3-4 more weeks of Mom not being able to drive (hmmm is this like when the groundhog sees his shadow and there's 6 more weeks of winter?!!! ok, I digress!) so the weekly errands will continue for a bit, and at least I know that now there is a REASON for going over there, besides just hanging out with my parents, which I did and do most weekends anyway. Now I'm actually being helpful!
Happy Weekend everyone!
