Services and the dinner went well last night.
Linda decided not to go, as it would serve to be uncomfortable for her. I understood and realized that in the very near future, I need to have a conversation with my ex about co-existing for the sake of Sophie. It's been 4 years and things need to be non-segregated when it comes to Sophie events at Temple.
Anyway, our weekend schedule with Sophie was modified to allow for plans during the day to remain as was, but to switch the nights as to where Sophie was sleeping, so that Linda & I could do something 'grownup' on a Saturday night.
So Sophie slept at our house last night and will be with us on Sunday during the day.
We (Sophie & I) got up at 6 this morning. We headed out at 6:30 for an early morning breakfast at the diner. Blintzes, bacon, home fries and eggs were shared between us with coffee & OJ for beverages! YUM!
Linda got to sleep in.
After dropping Sophie off with my ex - they were helping to unload and sort thru the G*rl Sc*ut cookie orders this morning, I headed to 8 am morning services. I haven't made to Saturday morning services in several weeks and I've missed it. Though there are many of the same prayers in both the Friday & Saturday services, for some reason, the Saturday morning service 'gets' me more in the mood of Shabbat. Maybe it's that the Torah portion is discussed and there is just a more refreshing/more in the moment feel for the whole experience. Hard to explain, but it's just what I prefer.
When I left Temple, I brought some coffee to Linda.
It is a beautiful day outside. Sunny and 35 degrees out. Perfect for cruising around in the Mini, with the sunroof open and the heat cranked! I looked forward to doing some errands later and taking a little ride, if possible.
After going thru the newspapers at home, Linda went to the gym (she starts her 1/2 marathon training tomorrow!) and I headed to the library to return books and look for a book that our Kulanu group is going to read and discuss at the end of the month. It sounded interesting. It's by Gad Beck and it's called: "An Underground Life: Memoirs of a Gay Jew in Nazi Berlin".
I decided to take Petey for the ride with me, as the last time I decided to bring along a furry co-pilot, I brought Tommy. Tommy was all curled up fast asleep as Petey & I headed out. Petey wasn't too sure about things as I carried him and the bag of books to the car!
He immediately slinked into the back seat and stretched out and looked around. I tried to coax him into the front seat with me, but he would have none of it.
We headed to the main library. Petey looking out the window and the roof while I enjoyed the beautiful scenery we passed along the way. I left him in the car when I got there.
According to the library on-line catalog, the book was only at the library in Southport. sigh. Ok, it's nice out and that's not so far away, so off we went. As we pulled out of the main library parking lot, Petey decided that perhaps he'd assume the position that he takes when I'm sitting at my desk at home checking emails and blogging. He crawled onto my lap and curled up under my arms.
When we arrived at that library, the book could not be found much to the librarian's chagrin! But they called down to the Westport library and had it put on hold for me.
Petey & I headed home with him, again, sprawled across my lap. He was not enjoying the ride half as much as Tommy had. I'm not sure if he just needs to have a few more experiences or to just let him be and take Tommy with me. We'll see.
Of course, on a day like today, along with the beautiful sights and breezes, having good music on the radio is a must. Like a crazy person that I am with the tv remote, is second only to the channel surfing that I do in the car! Both places make Linda crazy! (sorry, honey)
Anyway, on the 'oldies' station, the song "Seasons in the Sun" by Terry Jack was playing. (it's kind of startling to realize that 1974 was over 30 years ago!) I listened remembering being a junior in high school and even at that age, being such a sap, that this song used to bring a tear to my eye! (laugh if you must, but now this dumb song is gonna be playing in your head ALL DAY LONG!!!!)
However, the next song that came on was a classic: "Tell me something good" by Rufus, but it was the beginning of Chaka Khan's career - - what an excellent song to sing along with great innuendos for high schoolers who thought they were cool!
So, thankfully, that managed to get Terry Jack out of my head!
Anyway, we're heading out in a bit to go to a gay forum in Norwalk, we'll stop and pick up my book on the way home and then we'll see if the snow/wintry mix that has been predicted for tonight will have any affect on our plans for this evening.
Enjoy your day!

A group of us from school won a contest and the prize was tickets to a Rufus, featuring Chaka Khan concert. Awesome. Though, I've been to precious few concerts, since....that experience was indeed, awesome.
Hope your "wintry mix" didn't thwart the plans too much.
